What is Calcium Propionate?
Sodium propionate is an effective inhibitor of the growth of certain molds and some bacteria in bakery goods. It is usually preferred in non-yeast leavened bakery products because the calcium ions' of calcium propionate interfere with the chemical leavening agents. In those bakery products, such as cakes, tortillas, pie fillings etc., chemically leaved agents are used (e.g.baking powder). sodium propionate is easy to handle and easy to incorporate into flour. It is a safe compound when encountered at the low levels found in food.

Application

1. Calcium propionate can be used as a mold inhibitor for food and feed, and as a preservative for bread and pastries. Calcium propionate is easy to mix evenly with flour, serving as a preservative and providing essential calcium for the human body, thereby strengthening food.
2. Calcium propionate has an inhibitory effect on mold and aerobic Bacillus that can cause the production of sticky substances in bread, but has no inhibitory effect on yeast.
3. It is effective against mold, aerobic spore producing bacteria, gram-negative bacteria, aflatoxin, etc. in starch, protein and oil containing substances, and has unique anti mold and anti-corrosion properties.
4. It is a new, safe, efficient, broad-spectrum food and feed preservative used in food and brewing, feed, and traditional Chinese medicine preparations.
5. Calcium propionate as a feed additive can effectively inhibit feed mold and extend the shelf life of feed.
