What's Theobromine?

Theobromine is the main alkaloid in cocoa beans, the main bitter component of chocolate. It is white powdery crystals or white needle crystals, melting point 357ºC, sublimation at 290~295ºC. Solubility in water is smaller and the solubility in cold water is about 0.05g/lOOmL.

The solubility in hot water is about 0.68g/lOOmL, it can be dissolved in alkali solution and concentrated sulfuric acid, 1 methylated to produce  it has a weak stimulation of the central nervous system, and it has cardiotonic and diuretic effects.
