Product Description
Sorbitol, also referred to as D-sorbitol, is a naturally occurring sugar alcohol that is widely distributed in fruits such as apples, pears, and plums. It can be industrially synthesized from glucose and finds extensive application in the food industry.
Physical and Chemical Properties
Sorbitol appears as a white, hygroscopic powder or crystalline powder, flake, or granule, with no discernible odor. It is highly soluble in water (1g dissolves in approximately 0.45mL of water) and exhibits slight solubility in ethanol and acetic acid. Its melting point ranges between 88°C and 102°C, and its relative density is approximately 1.49. Sorbitol demonstrates chemical stability, resisting oxidation by air and microbial fermentation. It also exhibits excellent heat resistance, remaining stable even at high temperatures (up to 200°C).
